Robotics Engineer Jobs

HMGICS (Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore) is Hyundai Motor Group's first global smart mobility hub and its testbed for a Software-Defined Factory. Opened in 2023 in Singapore, the facility manufactures the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 electric vehicles, along with an autonomous IONIQ 5 robotaxi variant, at an annual capacity of up to 30,000 EVs. The site functions simultaneously as a production plant and an open innovation center for research, product development, and collaboration with Singapore businesses, universities, and research institutions.

The production system is built around cell-based manufacturing rather than a conventional fixed line: roughly 200 robots operate across automated cells designed for flexible and customized builds, including low-volume, high-mix configurations. Digital twin tooling keeps physical operations synchronized with virtual simulation, which is where the hardware/software boundary gets interesting - robot cells, automated production systems, and their control and simulation layers have to stay coherent as product variants change. Robotics work here spans the full stack of automated production systems, AI-driven operations, and the coordination of cells within a flexible manufacturing layout.

HMGICS is run as a testbed, so engineers get exposure to production technologies that are still being proven rather than only maintaining mature lines. The facility also integrates non-automotive elements into its site - a rooftop Skytrack test ride track for customer vehicle experiences and an on-site Smart Farm - alongside immersive factory tours and vehicle customization. The stated themes are advanced manufacturing, sustainable urban development, and human-centered mobility, under Hyundai Motor Group's "Progress for Humanity" vision.
